Are WAN Innovations Necessary?
Having branch offices that utilize mobile computing and SAAS, (software as a service) needs are putting pressure on the necessity to enhance both the security and the performance of WANs. There is much debate about the complex and challenging WAN problems. It is clear that WAN is ripe for modernization. However, among the IT world, not all of the solutions to fix WAN are the same. There are so many different segments of SD-WAN that it makes tackling its problems tricky. Areas of concern are network security, segmentation, operations ease and time to capability.

They need to optimize security, manageability and the benefits of flexibility. The most important thing is to implement WAN optimization without doing a big overhaul to the companies’ already functioning network. It shouldn’t require the need to retrain any IT personnel either. WANs are found in almost every company’s infrastructure, as they are essential for business. They allow remote locations to connect to the central office. This permits the company to have a physical presence in several locations and not sacrifice any corporate power to compute. When there are smaller offices away from the main hub, it allows these employees to perform the same big-office style tasks that they do at headquarters. It creates a cost-effective staff. It also leads to a loss in productivity.
The requisite for WAN optimization is clear. More and more companies are spreading their workforces across the country, and even the globe, to improve production and various other part of business. To do this a company must have a fast and secure remote access. This allows them to centralize their corporate facilities and increase their productivity. When productivity is increased, so is the profit. The need is great because these branches have workers who need sophisticated applications and services to be able to complete their work within a precise amount of time.
How can a company optimize WANs? One of the first ways is that some or all of their remote access should be sent over a public network, as opposed to a private one. Because computing is continually expanding and exceeding the confines of a firewall, there are security and performance issues that affect productivity. These issues can be fixed and the company will see a secure and demonstrable return on their investment to optimize.
Left unaltered, the WAN connections will continue to fight the bandwidth demands that the software applications put on them. They are constantly being crowded, and this will only get worse. More traffic equals more congestion and this messes with efficiency. Thought there are some initial costs involved in optimization, though the increase in productivity is enough to offset any expenses incurred.
